Death roared at Daniel, but was ultimately tamed by the hand of God. Jesus also faced death’s roar, but its bite wasn’t strong enough to hold him back.
Today's Bible verse is 1 Peter 5:8, from the King James Version.

Speaker 1: Let us pray, be sober and self controlled. Be watchful
00:00:06
Speaker 1: your adversary. The devil walks around like a roaring lion,
00:00:10
Speaker 1: seeking whom he may devour one Peter five eight. Dear
00:00:16
Speaker 1: Heavenly Father, we recognize that our adversary, the devil, prows
00:00:21
Speaker 1: around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. We
00:00:26
Speaker 1: ask for your protection, Lord, against every form of temptation, deceit,
00:00:31
Speaker 1: and harm that the enemy might throw our way. Grant
00:00:35
Speaker 1: us the wisdom to stay vigilant and alert. Understanding that
00:00:39
Speaker 1: we have an enemy seeking our downfall. God, fortify our
00:00:43
Speaker 1: faith that we may stand firm in the face of
00:00:46
Speaker 1: trials and adversities. Strengthen us, Lord, so we can resist
00:00:50
Speaker 1: the devil and cause him to flee from us. Let
00:00:55
Speaker 1: your word be our shield and sword, equipping us to
00:00:59
Speaker 1: stand strong against the forces of darkness. Please remind us,
00:01:05
Speaker 1: Father of the victory we have in Christ, Jesus, our
00:01:09
Speaker 1: savior who overcame the world. Let the confidence of this
00:01:15
Speaker 1: victory be our courage, and may your spirit guide us
00:01:18
Speaker 1: in all righteousness, keeping us from falling prey to the
00:01:22
Speaker 1: enemy's schemes. In Jesus's mighty name, we pray Amen thank
00:01:30
Speaker 1: you for praying with me today. Stay tuned now for
00:01:33
Speaker 1: another episode of Stories of the Messiah with Rabbi Schneider.
00:01:45
Speaker 1: Daniel knew he had done nothing wrong.
00:01:47
Speaker 2: Driven by jealousy, the governors of Persia tricked the king
00:01:51
Speaker 2: into condemning Daniel to die. Fooled by his governors and
00:01:55
Speaker 2: tempted by his bride, King Darius made a decree outlawing
00:01:58
Speaker 2: prayer to anyone. But Daniel knew praying to God might
00:02:02
Speaker 2: mean certain death.
00:02:03
Speaker 1: But it didn't stop him.
00:02:05
Speaker 2: He prayed to the Lord daily, seeking wisdom and praising
00:02:08
Speaker 2: his name. What was the punishment for such a crime
00:02:12
Speaker 2: being fed to the lions. So there Daniel was standing
00:02:16
Speaker 2: at the edge of a hole carved into a stone dungeon.
00:02:20
Speaker 2: He could hear the rumbling of the lion's pur underneath.
00:02:23
Speaker 2: Darius put a hand on Daniel's shoulder. His voice was
00:02:26
Speaker 2: filled with regret. I wouldn't have made such a decree
00:02:29
Speaker 2: if I'd have known, But now I must follow through.
00:02:32
Speaker 2: His voice trailed off, and he turned away from his
00:02:35
Speaker 2: dear friend.
00:02:36
Speaker 1: May your God deliver you.
00:02:38
Speaker 2: With those words, the gods knew Daniel into the lion's
00:02:41
Speaker 2: den and laid a stone over it. Daniel hit the
00:02:44
Speaker 2: ground with a thud and looked up. A stone was
00:02:47
Speaker 2: placed over the entrance, blocking out the sun. All was
00:02:51
Speaker 2: silent until Daniel heard the low vibrations of the lion's growl.
00:02:58
Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to an another episode of the Jesus Podcast.
00:03:02
Speaker 3: I'm Athan frompray dot com, your guide through this journey
00:03:05
Speaker 3: through the Bible's most iconic stories. If you've enjoyed our
00:03:10
Speaker 3: journey thus far, consider leaving us a review and sharing
00:03:13
Speaker 3: it with a friend. We want the story of the
00:03:16
Speaker 3: Bible and the hope of Jesus to be spread worldwide.
00:03:20
Speaker 3: We've been exploring the highs and lows of the Bible's
00:03:23
Speaker 3: most famous heroes, ultimately showcasing how their stories foreshadow the
00:03:28
Speaker 3: greatest hero of all, Jesus. So far, we've learned how
00:03:33
Speaker 3: Jesus is the greater Adam, Cain, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samson, Boaz, David, Solomon, Elijah,
00:03:45
Speaker 3: and Jonah. Their stories are testaments to the faithfulness of God.
00:03:50
Speaker 3: Their highs and lows remind us that no circumstances, no sins,
00:03:55
Speaker 3: no flaws will ever keep God from accomplishing his purposes.
00:04:01
Speaker 3: Today we turn our attention to a character whose unwavering
00:04:04
Speaker 3: devotion got him into trouble because of his faithfulness to God.
00:04:10
Speaker 3: Daniel was condemned to spend a night in a lion's den.
00:04:14
Speaker 3: The other governors of the empire were jealous of Daniel's wisdom, favor,
00:04:18
Speaker 3: and influence on the King. They hated his righteousness and
00:04:22
Speaker 3: sought to use it against him. Now, I don't need
00:04:26
Speaker 3: to tell you that this world can be pretty hostile
00:04:28
Speaker 3: to the people of God. Persecution is rampant worldwide, and
00:04:33
Speaker 3: we are forced as believers to consider the cost of
00:04:36
Speaker 3: following Jesus. If we were in Daniel's position, would we
00:04:40
Speaker 3: stop praying? Would we shrink under cultural pressure and give in?
00:04:45
Speaker 3: Daniel's story invites us to ponder those types of questions.
00:04:49
Speaker 3: Do we have unwavering faith in the face of cultural pushback?
00:04:54
Speaker 3: Daniel believed losing his relationship with God would be worse
00:04:57
Speaker 3: than losing his life, admitted himself to pray, knowing that
00:05:02
Speaker 3: it might mean death. Let's enter back into this dramatic
00:05:06
Speaker 3: retelling of Daniel's story. Daniel has been thrown into the lions.
00:05:10
Speaker 3: Then will this be the end for Daniel? Will God
00:05:14
Speaker 3: deliver him? As King Darius hopes, Let's find out now,
00:05:18
Speaker 3: then unpack what it means together.
00:05:22
Speaker 2: Daniel's sight had not yet adjusted to the darkness. He
00:05:25
Speaker 2: scrambled onto his hands and feet to find his place.
00:05:28
Speaker 2: He found a loose stone and held it in his hand.
00:05:31
Speaker 2: Daniel was prepared to fight for his life. He knew
00:05:34
Speaker 2: that God could protect him from the lions, but even
00:05:37
Speaker 2: if he didn't, he would not regret praying to the Lord.
00:05:40
Speaker 1: He couldn't see anything, but he knew they were there.
00:05:43
Speaker 2: He could feel the low base of the grouse in
00:05:45
Speaker 2: his chest. They were getting closer, stalking him and waiting
00:05:49
Speaker 2: for the perfect moment to pounce. He prayed for deliverance,
00:05:52
Speaker 2: gripped the stone, and prepared for the worst. He turned
00:05:56
Speaker 2: around to see the faintest shadow of a lion crouched
00:05:58
Speaker 2: behind him, prepared to ounce. Just as it was about
00:06:01
Speaker 2: to attack, a radiant light cut through the darkness like
00:06:04
Speaker 2: a hot blade. The light illuminated the four lions surrounding Daniel.
00:06:08
Speaker 2: They all cowered in fear and backed away from the light.
00:06:11
Speaker 2: They roared, but the light sprang forth and wrapped around
00:06:14
Speaker 2: their jaws. The lions submitted Immediately, the light vanished from sight,
00:06:20
Speaker 2: and Daniel was left alone again.
00:06:21
Speaker 1: In darkness with the lions. That he knew they had
00:06:24
Speaker 1: been subdued.
00:06:25
Speaker 2: The God of all creation had shut the jaws of
00:06:28
Speaker 2: death for Daniel. He would emerge out of that den
00:06:32
Speaker 2: living and triumphant. Meanwhile, King Darius paced his room, worrying
00:06:37
Speaker 2: over Daniel. He did not eat or sleep all night. Instead,
00:06:41
Speaker 2: he set his mind on the welfare of his friend.
00:06:43
Speaker 2: He waited for the light to break so he could
00:06:45
Speaker 2: roll away the stone of the den. As soon as
00:06:48
Speaker 2: the light touched the bottom of the horizon, Darius put
00:06:51
Speaker 2: on his clothes and rushed to the cave. He and
00:06:54
Speaker 2: all the men raced together and pulled away the stone.
00:06:57
Speaker 1: All was silent.
00:06:59
Speaker 2: Darius approached the entrance to the den. He looked down
00:07:02
Speaker 2: and listened for any sounds. He could hear nothing. He
00:07:06
Speaker 2: worried and shouted, Daniel, servant of the Living God, I
00:07:10
Speaker 2: shall God delivered you from the lions.
00:07:12
Speaker 3: There was a long pause.
00:07:14
Speaker 2: Darius Hodge was beating fast. Then a small voice echoed
00:07:19
Speaker 2: up to the entrance. Oh, King live forever.
00:07:22
Speaker 1: Of course, I'm safe, for I was blameless.
00:07:25
Speaker 2: My Lord upheld me and shut the mouth of the lions.
00:07:30
Speaker 3: The story of Daniel and the Lions Den is famous
00:07:32
Speaker 3: for a reason. It's a story of courageous faith and
00:07:36
Speaker 3: providential protection. What I love about Daniel's character is that
00:07:40
Speaker 3: he was fully prepared to die if that's what God
00:07:43
Speaker 3: had for him. He didn't pray with the certainty that
00:07:46
Speaker 3: God would save him from the lions. He prayed because
00:07:50
Speaker 3: that's what gave his life. Meaning, let me encourage you friends,
00:07:53
Speaker 3: it's better to live a short life on fire for
00:07:56
Speaker 3: the Lord than to live a long life apart from him.
00:08:00
Speaker 3: Relationship with God is what gives this life vibrancy, and
00:08:04
Speaker 3: it's what carries us into eternity. Daniel understood this, but
00:08:09
Speaker 3: he also believed that God would protect him from the
00:08:12
Speaker 3: lions if that were his will. Daniel's story teaches us
00:08:16
Speaker 3: the value of trust and steadfast devotion. Daniel faced various
00:08:21
Speaker 3: trials throughout his life, yet he never stopped trusting God's sovereignty.
00:08:26
Speaker 3: Whether interpreting dreams for a king, serving in a foreign government,
00:08:30
Speaker 3: or facing lions and a den, Daniel had faith in
00:08:33
Speaker 3: God's control over all circumstances. He believed that God was
00:08:38
Speaker 3: in control even when things seemed chaotic or dangerous. This
00:08:44
Speaker 3: encourages us to trust God's plan for our lives even
00:08:47
Speaker 3: when we can't see the bigger picture. In the darkness
00:08:51
Speaker 3: of the Lion's den, it was hard to see, but
00:08:54
Speaker 3: God's light eventually broke through. It's the same for us
00:08:58
Speaker 3: when we are facing darkness. Daniel also teaches us how
00:09:03
Speaker 3: to stand firm in our convictions. Daniel's life was marked
00:09:07
Speaker 3: by his unwavering faith and his commitment to his beliefs,
00:09:11
Speaker 3: even when those beliefs directly contradicted the governing powers. From
00:09:15
Speaker 3: his refusal to eat the king's food because it violated
00:09:19
Speaker 3: Jewish dietary laws to his defiance of a law that
00:09:22
Speaker 3: forbade praying to anyone but the King, Daniel stood firm
00:09:26
Speaker 3: in his convictions. The lesson is that personal integrity and
00:09:31
Speaker 3: faithfulness to our beliefs are more important than conforming to
00:09:35
Speaker 3: societal pressures or expectations. This is especially important for today's
00:09:40
Speaker 3: cultural moment, when the pressure to compromise our beliefs and
00:09:44
Speaker 3: integrity is at an all time high. Lastly, Daniel's journey
00:09:49
Speaker 3: into the lion's den and out into the light points
00:09:52
Speaker 3: us towards Jesus, who had his journey into darkness. Let's
00:09:57
Speaker 3: immerse ourselves into a short retelling of Jesus his resurrection.
00:10:01
Speaker 3: When Death's jaws were shut to save the Son of God.
00:10:07
Speaker 2: Jesus knew that he had done nothing wrong. Driven by jealousy,
00:10:11
Speaker 2: the leaders of Israel condemned him to die. He hung
00:10:14
Speaker 2: on a cursed cross, but his death was not a defeat.
00:10:18
Speaker 2: The grave was always his destination. Death roared like a
00:10:23
Speaker 2: lion and sank its claws into the Son of God,
00:10:26
Speaker 2: but death's grip could not hold him long. For three days,
00:10:30
Speaker 2: Jesus lay in a tomb in the garden. Guards were
00:10:33
Speaker 2: placed at either side of the grave to keep people out.
00:10:36
Speaker 2: Little did they know they would need to keep Jesus in.
00:10:40
Speaker 2: Christ's followers had lost hope, and the enemy thought he
00:10:43
Speaker 2: had achieved victory, but death had no power over Jesus.
00:10:47
Speaker 2: The dark skies gave way to the morning sun on
00:10:50
Speaker 2: the third day, for the first time since his death.
00:10:53
Speaker 1: Light broke through.
00:10:55
Speaker 2: The sun crept over the horizon, its rays spilling over
00:10:58
Speaker 2: the hills like liquid gold. The two guards lounged in
00:11:01
Speaker 2: the coolness of the morning mist, lazily watching the sun's
00:11:04
Speaker 2: rays ripple through the misty air. The sunrise was ahead
00:11:07
Speaker 2: of them, illuminating the rest of the garden. As its
00:11:11
Speaker 2: rays reached the grave site, another light emerged from behind.
00:11:14
Speaker 2: The gods recoiled and looked back. The earth began to tremble,
00:11:18
Speaker 2: knocking the guards down on their backs. They turned and
00:11:21
Speaker 2: watched the stone roll away. A glory beyond words cascaded
00:11:25
Speaker 2: from the dark tomb. The radiance swept through the air
00:11:28
Speaker 2: with such might that it sent the guards flying backwards.
00:11:32
Speaker 2: They reached for their spears, but not before another surge
00:11:35
Speaker 2: of power broke forth from the darkness. They ran back
00:11:37
Speaker 2: into the trees and remained on the ground. Death's mouth
00:11:41
Speaker 2: was sealed shut, and Jesus Christ emerged from the grave victorious.
00:11:46
Speaker 2: No scheme of man or power of hell could hold
00:11:48
Speaker 2: him back.
00:11:52
Speaker 3: First Peter chapter five tells us that the enemy prowls
00:11:55
Speaker 3: like a lion, seeking whom it made a vour. The
00:11:59
Speaker 3: enemy certainly tried its best to devour Jesus on the cross.
00:12:03
Speaker 3: Death's cruel jaws sunk its teeth into Jesus and dragged
00:12:07
Speaker 3: him to the grave. But on the third day, Jesus
00:12:11
Speaker 3: emerged victorious. The lions den In Daniel chapter six, is
00:12:15
Speaker 3: a metaphor for the grave. Jesus, like Daniel, rose from
00:12:19
Speaker 3: the lion's den and displayed the power of God. Jesus's
00:12:24
Speaker 3: victory over death gives us hope that we, through Christ,
00:12:28
Speaker 3: can have victory over sin, death and shame. Perhaps there
00:12:33
Speaker 3: are some of you today who feel like you're trapped
00:12:35
Speaker 3: in a lion's den. The enemy has tried to take
00:12:39
Speaker 3: your heart as well. My friends, it is my joy
00:12:43
Speaker 3: to remind you that you don't have to be a
00:12:46
Speaker 3: victim to your sins or to the sins of our society.
00:12:51
Speaker 3: Romans chapter eight tells us that we are more than conquerors.
00:12:54
Speaker 3: In Christ Jesus. We follow the God who shut the
00:12:58
Speaker 3: mouths of lions and rose from the pit of death.
00:13:01
Speaker 3: Whatever sinds you struggle with or trials you have faced,
00:13:05
Speaker 3: can be conquered. Dare to be a Daniel and face
00:13:09
Speaker 3: the struggle head on. Dare to stand boldly in the
00:13:12
Speaker 3: lion's den. Jesus has given you victory. Because Jesus rose
00:13:18
Speaker 3: from the grave and shared his victory with you and me,
00:13:22
Speaker 3: we are confident that Jesus is the greater Daniel. Join
00:13:27
Speaker 3: us next time, where we explore the most unlikely hero
00:13:30
Speaker 3: of all you. We'll learn about God's deep and abiding

Speaker 3: love for you, and how your shortcomings allow God to
00:13:39
Speaker 3: display his glory. Don't miss our final episode to discover
00:13:43
Speaker 3: how Jesus is the greater you.
