Episode 79: Lessons From Our Fourth Year of Marriage

As we've done the past few years on our anniversary, this week my wife Emily and I share a conversation reflecting on the past year of our marriage. Much of this conversation focuses on the past couple of weeks, which have been marked by us navigating life after being displaced from a tornado that hit our home in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Our region and our state is still grieving and recovering from the devastating tornadoes that ravaged the western part of Kentucky on December 10 and 11. I was honored to be asked by the Washington Post to share my story of that night, and you can read that here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/12/16/surviving-terror-tragedy-kentucky-thanks-spirit-our-neighbors/

We talked about quite a bit in this conversation, but we did spend quite a bit of time talking about trauma and how spouses can help each other navigate it. Emily is a mental health therapist with a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, so she is legitimately a perfect person to speak to his. We also shared some of our biggest joys of the past year and spent quite a bit of time talking about budgeting and what has worked for us and how we've been been able to pay down a significant portion of our debt this year.
