In this week’s episode we discuss chapters 16 to the first part of 18 in the book of Genesis. We see such a clear picture of the depravity of humanity when Sarai tries to take matters of fulfilling God’s promise into her own hands. She tells Abram to conceive a child with her servant, Hagar, and when he does we clearly see the pain that comes along with the consequences of sin. We look at how God is a God that both sees and hears us even in the midst of trials, many times caused by our own actions. Throughout this passage God continues to remind Abram of his promises and that even though it seems impossible, through Him, they will be fulfilled.
Quotes:
“He’s the same God today as the God who met Hagar in the wilderness. A God who sees.”
“God doesn’t just hear you and leave you there, but he meets you and sees you.”
“God has more than one reason for his delays. Often it is to test the faith of His children. To develop their patience. To bring them to the end of themselves. His delays are in order so that when He does act his delivering power may be more plainly evident, that what He does may be more deeply appreciated, and that in that consequence he may be more illustriously glorified.” -AW Pink
“The sign itself availed nothing; it had to be accompanied by a walk that was “blameless” (Gen. 17:1), which was not perfection but the orientation of one’s whole life to the promise, presence, and demands of God. In other words, the sign was only effectual for salvation if accompanied by faith, the demonstration of which was seen in being blameless.” -Ligonier Ministries
